Website and Wordpress designs and builds

I build regular sites and blog sites both in Wordpress and static XHTML. The platform I use depends entirely on the needs of my client. Portfolio sites built in Wordpress have an icon on the image of their site (below) to denote the platform.

Information and lead-gen site for RootOrange
» rootorange.com

This was a Photoshop to Wordpress project for the folks at RootOrange. The site design was done by David Koetke and I built the dynamic pages into a Wordpress theme. This complicated design had several forms to construct and Wordpress features to incorporate. Highlights include a dynamic menu at the top made from WP links, a sitemap navigation at the bottom which changes according to the page that are saved, and a side navigation on each page that displays the child pages. Everyone involved was pleased with the outcome and I went on to help them with XHTML in the main application.

Goals: create an easy-to-manage site to collect leads and display information

Techniques: Wordpress, XHTML, CSS

One page site for Sixtop restaurant

Michael found me via my blog and wanted a set of invitation cards with a similar style as my business cards. He also needed a website to display the current menu and information about the sporadic meals he hosted. The site was designed to compliment the card and serve as a very simple overview of what is offered, upcoming events, and a few photos. The product was simple and elegant and exactly what he needed.

Goals: design a very simple one-page site to compliment his sparse invitation card.

Techniques: XHTML, CSS

Promotion and giving site for Sara’s Sanctuary
» saras-sanctuary.org

Terri, founder of the Sara’s Sanctuary animal shelter and close family friend, needed a new look for her website. The site needed to be easy to use, easy to maintain, and draw people towards the page where people could donate or offer their help. I came up with a new look based on animal sites she liked and built the site in Wordpress so it would be easy for her to update and add content. The site is currently set up to draw attention to a situation on the sanctuary and will be re-purposed slightly at a later date. I’m also introducing her to social media and networking to gather attention for her cause. This was a pro-bono project.

Goals: create an easy-to-maintain site that brings in donations

Techniques: Wordpress, XHTML, CSS, SEO, social networking

“Josh is a Rock Star! – Josh designed, created, built and deployed a wonderful website for our non-profit animal sanctuary at a time when we were addressing several serious issues. Josh was able to step in very quickly, to ascertain our needs and build a site that has been consistently able to get our message out to the people we need to reach….Even though I don’t understand any part of that process, Josh had the patience to explain how it all works together and dedicated the time to set it all in motion….I couldn’t be happier with our sanctuary’s site and would definitely recommend Josh to any person or business who wants to have a dynamic web presence.” (Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 By Terri on Nov 16, 2009) Read more reviews on Google »

Tammra and Ed Graves came to me looking to have a Wordpress blog designed and built for their home-based business endeavor. Aerosol art portfolio for artist, Pose2
» posetwo.com

I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with a prolific and very talented graffiti artist originally hailing from the East Coast, Pose2 aka Mr Max Moses. We wanted to represent his two personas, Pose2 and Mr. Maxx Moses so we came up with the idea of two websites in one. It functions well to separate his work and give the very real sense that there are two very different things going on.

Goals: display artwork, class information, and persona on a unique and polished site

Techniques: Photoshop design, XHTML, CSS, PHP

“[Josh] is a good listener and has the ability to look at what you want to get across on the web, fine tune it and ultimately package it for your target market. Communicating with josh can help has been a total advantage to the way I see my business now and in the coming future. I highly recommend JoshCanHelp because of his tech knowledge skills and willingness and determination to want his clients to succeed. The coolest things I have learned is how to manage and update my own blog site, how to set up Google alerts and how to organize and present my business effectively online.” (By Daniel Hopkins via email Jan 22nd, 2009)

Interactive pop-culture news site
» smaknews.com

I am the former Front-End Developer for the Pligg-based site, SmakNews.com. SmakNews launched April 5th with a strong set of social features including Twitter-like commenting and the ability to “follow” users and stories. This site uses Smarty templates to display the information. I designed several key components on the site and am responsible for XHTML and CSS used in the template files. I also worked a bit with the back-end PHP code.

Techniques: XHTML, CSS, PHP, Smarty templates

“I watched as Josh took a PSD of the basic design for SmakNews and turned it into a reality. His ability to work with the programmer, CEO and marketing folks to make everything work and everyone happy impressed me greatly. I’d happily — and, frankly, hope to — work with Josh again.” (Amy Vernon on May 3, 2009 via LinkedIn) Read more recommendations on LinkedIn »
